Questions and answers.
Everything people ask before they close the notebook.
Getting started
What is RePay?
An Android app for people in Ethiopia who collect the same money on a schedule: rent, school fees, membership dues, monthly service fees. It shows who paid, reminds payers and checks slips.
Do my payers need to install an app?
No. They get reminders on Telegram or by SMS, and can open a simple page at pay.repay.et to see what they owe, pay and send a slip.
Is there an iPhone app?
RePay launches on Android first.
Pricing and plans
How much does it cost?
Free for up to 15 active payers, forever. Paid plans start at ETB 690 a month for 50 payers. Every new account gets a 30-day trial of Business.
Will I be charged after the trial?
No. We don't take card or payment details for the trial, and nothing is charged automatically. After 30 days you choose a plan or move to Free.
I have more than one business. Do I pay twice?
No. One subscription covers all your businesses. Price depends on active payers in total.
What happens if I stop paying?
After a 7-day grace period, your account moves to Free limits. Your 15 longest-active payers keep working; the rest become read-only with their history. Your data is never deleted for non-payment.
Can I get a refund?
RePay doesn't offer refunds. That's why the trial is 30 days with no card, and plans never renew by themselves.
Reminders and slips
How do automatic reminders work?
Turn them on once per business. RePay reminds each payer 3 days before the due date, on the day, and 3 and 7 days after, at 09:00, on Telegram or (on paid plans) SMS. Nothing goes out at night or to someone who has paid.
How does RePay check slips?
Each slip comes with its reference. The same reference can't be used twice, so a reused screenshot shows "Already used". If bank SMS match is on, RePay also tells you whether that money is already in your bank SMS. You make the final decision.
What is bank SMS match? Is it safe?
On Android, RePay can read money-in SMS from CBE and Telebirr on your own phone and suggest which payer paid. Nothing is recorded until you tap. The message text never leaves your phone. Only owners can turn it on, and you can turn it off any time.
Can payers stop reminders?
Yes. They reply STOP to an SMS or tap "Stop reminders" in Telegram. You see who has stopped.
Money and security
Does RePay hold my money?
No. RePay is not a wallet or a bank. Payers pay you directly, or online through Chapa straight to your bank account.
Which payment methods does it support?
Cash, Telebirr, CBE (including CBE Birr), M-Pesa and other, plus online payment through Chapa.
What does online payment cost my payer?
A small RePay service fee (1%, minimum ETB 5, maximum ETB 50) plus Chapa's payment fee, both shown before they pay. Paying you directly and sending a slip is always free.
Using the app
Does it work with the Ethiopian calendar?
Yes. Choose Ethiopian or Gregorian for your account. Monthly payers keep their due day, and Pagume is never a billing month.
What if I have no internet?
RePay works offline. Record payments and add payers without internet; it syncs when you're back online. Reminders go out from our server even if your phone is off.
Can my staff use it?
Yes, on paid plans. Choose which businesses each person sees and whether they can change payers and prices. Every payment shows who recorded it. Reports are for owners only.
